It is a blog about basic electronics. Here I explain about ICs. Basically IC is an electronic component. It is very essential in now a days. It seen in every circuit boards around us. But the question is that the IC is a discrete component? This is a confusing question for beginners. But the answer is that, it is not a discrete component. It contain so many number of discrete components in it. That means it is basically a small scaled PCB (not exact PCB) in a single wafer and it is packaged in a single unit. Each IC contain thousands of discrete components and it is connect internally and form different circuits in it. The advantage is that the size of IC is very small compared to the same circuit which wired in a PCB. For example we know about the IC 555 timer. It is a small 8 pin dip IC. I wired the same 555 internal circuit using discrete components into a PCB. You compare the difference. The video and the web links given below.

How find IC pin number?
This is the major problem for a beginner. For beginner it is a difficult task. If the IC pin number is wrong , then the IC will damage. So it is an important thing. But it is very simple to find the pin number of an IC. For finding the pin number of an IC there is an indication in all the ICs. It is shown in the image. The IC is placed in an orientation like in the image. Then the pin number is starts from right side of the notch or dot and it is count in the anticlockwise direction from the right position . So by this method we find all the pin number of the IC. Observe the image which is given.
How find IC name/number ?
The IC name is represented by using letters and decimal numbers. It is printed on the IC top side. It distinguish the IC from each other. The IC top face also contain some numbers other than IC name. It indicate some manufacturing information. We don't need it. The IC number is finding from the printed numbers is little bit difficult for beginners. But after some practice it become a simple task. Some examples are given below, the IC name is in the rounded box.

For every starters the 555 is the best choice. It is very well known IC in the whole world. It is a 8 pin IC. It is multi functional IC. It is basically a timer IC. It is used for oscillator ,PWM modulator, timer, multivibrators, switch etc... Tons of 555 projects present in the Internet. So it is the best choice for beginners.
